Young people ask to end fossil fuel subsidies and make the industry own up to its impact on the planet

Avatar: Official contribution Official contribution

Young people want the EU to take a tougher stand against the fossil fuel industry’s part in the climate crisis. They highlighted how unfair it is to keep subsidising fossil fuels while vulnerable communities, especially in the Global South, bear most of the consequences of the climate crisis. They urged the EU to phase out fossil fuel subsidies – especially in the next EU budget – and to hold major polluters accountable. How can the EU lead the way? Is it possible to hold companies more accountable? And how can public money be used better to support climate justice and clean innovation?
