A new European budget fit for our ambitions
A driving force behind European action
Local security for a secure Europe
A future-oriented EU budget must also strengthen local security in the member states. Internal security begins on the ground: with well-equipped security agencies and effective fight against crime. Investing in police cooperation between EU countries is crucial to effectively combat cross-border crime, terrorism and organised gangs. European databases and digital surveillance systems need to be further developed in order to improve the exchange of information between security authorities. International cooperation between security agencies would also be essential. Cybercrime is also a growing threat. The protection of critical infrastructures, public administrations and private companies, as well as hospitals, needs to be strengthened through targeted investments in cybersecurity and digital resilience. At the same time, social security measures are essential. Prevention programmes, as well as the integration of disadvantaged groups and a strong civil society, help to prevent radicalisation and crime. A new EU budget should specifically support local security structures to make Europe safe and resilient not only externally but also internally.
