I envision a European Union that is intergenerational, inclusive, and united in solidarity. A Union where every stage of life is recognized for its unique value and contribution to society. A Union where age is no longer a basis for discrimination.
To make this vision a reality, older people should not be seen as an economic burden. They are a valuable asset to our societies, offering their time, skills, and life experience—especially through informal care and voluntary work. Furthermore, continuous intergenerational dialogue should be fostered through dedicated democratic spaces. Establishing citizens’ assemblies at local, national, and European levels (based on the French “Citizens’ Convention for Climate”) would enable people of all ages and backgrounds to deliberate together on pressing societal issues such as the ecological transition, housing, and digital inclusion. These assemblies must have real influence over public decision-making, helping to build a stronger sense of community through mutual understanding and shared responsibility.
