A new European budget fit for our ambitions
A driving force behind European action
Strengthening the fight against discrimination in the EU
As we already know, the European Union stands for equal rights for all people. Nevertheless, LGBTQ+ people, ethnic minorities and people with disabilities continue to experience discrimination in many Member States. Whether in the work or school environment or in everyday life in general - people still struggle with prejudices and disadvantages. While there is more and more progress these days, there is also backsliding in some countries due to certain laws or hate crimes. In order to combat discrimination effectively, the EU needs to act more decisively and introduce or implement stronger measures against hate crime as well as an implementation of the anti-discrimination directives in all. Member States. Furthermore, equality laws are to be brought into line in order to further secure LGBTQ+ rights, minority protection and disability equality throughout Europe. Educational programmes would be best suited to this end in order to focus attention on the problem and thereby reduce prejudices and strengthen diversity.
