+As someone working in elderly care in Friesland, The Netherlands, I witness how understaffed the sector is. Care workers are doing their best, but they simply don’t have enough time for more than the basic physical care. There is little opportunity left for something as simple yet essential as a personal conversation with residents.

+I believe the EU should allocate additional funding in the next budget to support elderly care. This could include financing for more staff or encouraging volunteer programs that offer companionship.

+With Europe’s population rapidly aging, we must ensure that older citizens receive not only medical attention but also the human connection they need to feel valued and less lonely. Investing in this kind of compassionate care is not a luxury, it is a necessity for a humane and inclusive Europe.
