  • +Enhancing Mental Health Services for Students Across the EU

Pagrindinė dalis (English)

  • +We are currently facing a mental health crisis with this generation of youth, with many young people suffering with anxiety, depression, or other mental disorders. The EU must respond to this by investing in comprehensive mental health support systems for students within its educational budget. I propose dedicated funding in the next budget for mental health services in primary and secondary schools, as well as higher educational programs. This funding should support:
  • +• Recruiting trained psychologists, counsellors, and social workers in ever school/ higher educational institution.
  • +• Providing mental health training to teachers and staff so they can recognise early signs of mental illnesses and respond appropriately.
  • +• Allocate spaces in schools where students are comfortable to access safe and private support.
  • +• Include discussions about mental health in curriculums and coping strategies for stress and anxiety. This will reduce stigma and normalise talking about these issues.
  • +• Create specialist support services for especially vulnerable individuals.
  • +• Provide workshops or resources to help families support their children’s mental wellbeing.
  • +
  • +This initiative would improve students' emotional well-being, as well as enhancing academic performance and reducing drop-out rates. Mental well-being needs to be a core part of education policy at the EU level in order to build a resilient and emotionally aware generation, capable of contributing positively to society.
