A new European budget fit for our ambitions

A driving force behind European action

Sustainable Promotion of Hop Cultivation in Ribera del Órbigo (León, Spain)

The cultivation of hops in Ribera del Órbigo is a strategic sector for the rural economy and European beer production. However, it faces challenges such as climate change, international competition and a lack of technological innovation. We propose an initiative to modernise production through sustainable practices, digitalisation and support for local farmers. Objectives: -Modernisation and sustainability: Introduce regenerative cultivation techniques, water use efficiency and reduction of chemical inputs. -Digitalisation and technology: Implement soil sensors, data analysis tools and weather forecasting systems. Cooperation and training: Create knowledge networks with universities, research centers and farmers to share best practices. -Market access and added value: Promote local production within short marketing circuits and strengthen the presence of Leonese hops in the European beer industry. Proposed actions: -Creation of a Hop Innovation Centre to research and apply new technologies. -Grants for the installation of efficient irrigation and organic crops. -Training programmes for farmers in digitalisation and sustainable management. -Incentives for cooperatives and local associations promoting the circular economy.
