"Strategic Approach to Sustainable Financing of a Medical Equipment Logistics Centre"
A strategic approach combining citizen participation, sustainability, innovation and institutional cooperation is essential to ensure adequate and sustainable funding for a healthcare logistics centre. This type of infrastructure should be considered critical for public health, and its funding should be supported by citizens, using mechanisms such as the EU Citizen Participation Platform and Citizens’ Panels. These instruments facilitate access to European funds such as the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), the Cohesion Fund or NextGenerationEU. The design of the centre should be multimodal, integrating air, rail and road transport, optimising material distribution and opening the door to green financing, especially if the use of rail is promoted. Locating the center in a strategic logistics node with access to these means of transport improves its operational and financial viability. It is recommended to promote public-private partnerships (PPPs) that share financial risk, involving transport companies and manufacturers of sanitary equipment. In addition, a digital traceability system should be implemented to ensure transparency and efficiency in the use of funds, which strengthens public trust and facilitates new rounds of funding. This approach can turn the centre into a benchmark for modern and resilient health infrastructure.
