Funding for the promotion of minority languages in the European Union

The European Union has a great linguistic diversity; however, many of these languages do not receive the necessary support for their proper use, protection and promotion. That is why we would like to propose the creation of a specific fund for the preservation and dissemination of minority languages, including those that do not have official recognition at the state level. The objective of this funding would be to be destined to educational programs in schools and universities, in local media that work with these languages, to the production of audiovisual and digital content in minority languages, as well as in projects of search and documentation of languages in danger of extinction. This fund would benefit both officially recognised regional languages such as Catalan, Basque, Welsh, Scottish Gaelic, Franco-Provençal and Friulan, as well as those without official recognition at state level, including Samico (spoken in Sweden, Finland, Norway), Breton and Corsican (France), Occitan (France, Italy and Spain), Ladino (Italy) and Sorbian (Germany). In addition, emphasis would also be given to endangered languages such as Livonium (Latvia), Gaguzo (Moldova), Aragonese (Spain), Manx (Island of Man) and Yiddish. The proposal for the promotion of minority languages is part of the legal context of the European Union.
