Vision of Long-term participatory governance

Avatar: Paulo ROSA Paulo ROSA

Imagine a world in which those traditionally excluded from decision-making, also had a voice. This also means those people who are not even born yet but part of a future the state of which we are responsible for. The not yet born future generations whose lives will surely be affected by our actions, thus their voice should in a way be represented in today's decision-making, especially in issues related to environmental problems. So imagine a world in which these people had specific representation, e.g. spoke-persons or ombudsman like institutions everywhere that only and specifically focus on issues related to them and represent their interests in front of the decision-makers. We are now in a system which usually only focuses on the present and the short-term future, not taking into consideration the long-term effects of our actions, thus making the lives of those in the further future a lot more challenging. We could live in a world in which we make are decisions today with consideration to those who will live on this planet in the future, e.g. our children's grandchildren.
