Wijzigingen in “A Budget that Reflects Citizen's Priorities”

+The Budget is the main EU policy instrument. Its composition should better reflect the priorities of EU citizens. The gradual increase of funds for cohesion policies, green and digital initiatives were in the right direction. The NexGen EU borrowing to finance the COVID-19 recovery and resilience was also well aligned with citizens’ needs. The new long-term fiscal framework should also reflect the real everyday needs of EU citizens: housing, education, health, transportation and other public goods and services. European citizens need to counter the deterioration of the welfare state and make sure that their livelihoods are well protected. Europe has already enough arms and soldiers to protect its borders, but not enough houses for all Europeans. Border conflicts and geopolitical tensions need to be dealt with firmly in the way that the EU has taught the world: creating welfare for all involved by developing common economic and social interest. Diplomacy and integration were the solution to put an end to the conflict among secular enemies. We do not need to focus our budget on military expenditure which may antagonize rather than resolve existing and future tensions. Europe means Peace and its budget should reflect this priority.
