A new European budget fit for our ambitions
A driving force behind European action
Increasing mental suffering, decreasing mental support
More and more children and adolescents are suffering from mental illnesses caused by academic pressure and other factors. The age at which these occur is shifting further and further downwards, which should put us on the highest alert. Considering the fact that children and adolescents spend half the day in school, and at the same time considering the small number of psychologists available for over 800 students, one wonders: How can a single person, who is only present four hours a week, ensure the well-being of so many students? Mental health is not a fad, but a serious issue that affects the satisfaction of our entire society. Training and expanding our healthcare staff should be a top priority. A first step in the right direction would be to start in schools. Because 0.005 hours per student are far from enough to talk about one's own suffering from the soul.
