A European Union Where Generations Thrive Together

Pseudoportretas Ірина Красан

I envision an EU where the voices of all generations — young, old, and in-between — are equally valued in shaping our shared future. A truly flourishing society would be intergenerational by design: where youth bring innovation and energy, older generations offer wisdom and experience, and middle generations help bridge both worlds through leadership and collaboration.
What should happen now to make this real?
Every major policy — from climate to housing to digital transformation — should include formal consultations with youth councils, senior networks, and intergenerational forums to ensure decisions benefit all age groups. Education shouldn’t stop at school. We need robust programs that help older adults stay engaged with new technologies and empower young people with civic and democratic literacy. Cities and towns should promote shared community hubs where generations can meet, exchange ideas, and build relationships — from co-housing projects to mixed-age cultural centres. Climate justice is inherently intergenerational. Decisions must account for long-term environmental impacts, with youth actively involved in sustainability strategies.
A united Europe starts with united generations. Let’s build bridges, not walls, between age groups — and design policies that help every citizen, regardless of age, contribute to and benefit from a thriving society.
