Implementing mandatory smart meter's

Old energy meter's have only night and day tariff. The new smart meter's can report current energy tariff/price and by this enable the consumer to decide when it is expensive or cheap to use electricity. This in theory should straighten the demand curve and thus reduce dependence on peaking plants. Smart electricity meters can also be used to purchase electricity produced by consumers at current market prices ( surplus production from photovoltaics or even set aside capacity from home batteries)
