With the Blue Angel, desktop software was also investigated for energy efficiency for the first time. That’s very promising. With energy optimisations on core software components widely used in Europe, significant energy savings can be achieved. Priority should be given to those open source parts that are very common in the SBOM of EU software products. The Commission should promote extensive research into energy efficiency in these components.
