MEGA EU CITIZENS : A democratic european citizenship for everyone, not just the few

Our ECI calls on the EU to further develop a true European citizenship right for its 448 million people. The goal is to make this citizenship accessible not only to Erasmus students and Europeans living abroad but to everyone. European citizenship, based on fundamental rights such as freedom of movement, should be a right for all citizens. The proposal is for each citizen to benefit from a European mobility experience to better understand and apply European values. European citizens should be educated about their rights, democracy, and the rule of law especially in the current global context. This includes creating educational programs tailored to all ages through exchanges and vocational training. The objectives include establishing a European citizenship statute, a training program for civic educators and a network of European Citizens’ houses. The ICE emphasizes the importance of civic education to strengthen democracy in the face of rising authoritarianism and inequalities all over the world. The Erasmus+ program is a successful example to be expanded, and concrete actions to support active citizenship are needed, including funding measures for educational and civic institutions. That is why we would like to start with a pilot project to test demand for the use of the right for all - a pilot project which should be included in the next EU multi-annual financial framework.
