A new European budget fit for our ambitions

A driving force behind European action

Showing presence and starting with young people

I think the EU, and in part democracy itself, has become abstract for many young people. To start here, I propose to take money in hand to show massive presence in the schools. At least every 4 years, representatives of the EU should hold workshops at as many schools as possible in the respective countries. (What does the EU do, research in the EU, news from other EU countries, quizzes...) At the same time, the instrument of direct citizen participation should be played out here. For example, as a kind of European debate competition. Each school makes a political proposal (through elections). From these proposals, a panel (including students?) selects a proposal from each country. The schools whose proposals have been selected must present/defend their ideas as convincingly as possible in a competition. However, it would be important to implement at least one proposal. Otherwise, it could be counterproductive. Whether a competition is implemented or not, I think much more human proximity to the pupils, students and all citizens in general will pay off in the long run.
