A new European budget fit for our ambitions

A driving force behind European action

Funding for women's protection

As a woman myself I feel deeply about the fact that more needs to be done for Member States to be able to deal with violence against women accordingly. I think this could be done in part by allocating a bigger budget directed at protecting women, especially in rural areas.
Indeed, this could be done by reinforcing training for the authorities for them to be able to adequately deal with these types of situations. Equally, more needs to be done to improve and increase women’s safety at night, especially in rural areas, where most of the time it is
inadequate and there is no infrastructure in place to make women’s lives easier. This could be done by installing more streetlights, and pathways to ensure women can feel safer whilst being outside at night. Furthermore, in rural areas there are less resources such a women’s
shelters and associations. More could be put in place to ensure an equal protection. Whether you are a woman in a city or in a rural area you should have access to the same protection.
