A new European budget fit for our ambitions
A driving force behind European action
Promotion and support of programmes and services for the inclusion of people with hearing disabilities
According to the World Health Organization, approximately 20% of the global population has hearing loss problems, and more than 430 million of them have disabling hearing loss. I believe it’s not taking into account, as it should, how much it can impact on a person with a hearing loss disability the reality of a society that still has barriers with this community. As someone who doesn’t have this type of disability, it breaks my heart to watch people like my neighbor face challenges due to the lack of assistive devices and services. I believe it’s important we invest in informative programs for raising awareness about the deaf community and the needs of hearing loss individuals. Also, fund programs for teaching sign language classes at school, for example, or making this sort of program more accessible for people who want to learn the language. It’s important as well to train professionals like healthcare workers or administrative workers to access those areas of life without too much difficulty. Lastly, ensuring assistive technology or interpreters is key for allowing people from this community to fully participate in society without a negative impact. Let’s be more inclusive and kind with those around us.
