Expand Urban Greening Across EU Cities
The next EU budget should significantly increase funding for urban greening initiatives in and around European cities. These projects help combat climate change, reduce urban heat islands, improve air quality, and protect native species.
This proposal:
Grants for municipalities to plant native trees, restore green spaces, and create green roofs and walls;
Fund educational programs that teach citizens—especially youth—about sustainability, biodiversity, and the benefits of green infrastructure;
Support for community-led greening projects to foster civic engagement and environmental education;
Integration with climate adaptation strategies, especially in vulnerable urban areas;
Urban ecosystems are essential for citizens' well-being and the health of our planet. By greening our cities and connecting them to nature, we can build a more resilient, biodiverse, and livable Europe for current and future generations.
