Make housing more affordable and accessible for everyone.
These days many people are fighting to find a suitable home for themselves across Europe, especially in big cities, where they study or work, because of unbearably high rents, low availability of quality houses and housing shortages. This causes problems, because people spend most of their salary on rents or mortgages, which causes inequality in population, some people can’t find a decent place to stay and may not study/work in the city, which could be best for them simply because they could not find a place to stay or place that they could afford.
Because there is not enough affordable housing being build, people are living in overcrowded flats, living in uncertainty about their future, being on waiting lists, or because of the high prices they are being forced to move out of the city. People are losing access to their schools, work and other services.
Prioritizing renovation of existing buildings that are not used by public into suitable homes, co-finance new housing developments, regulation of rents, social housing and support of communities could be a step forward. Also to fight against this hard situation, the main support should be dedicated to students, young workers, old people and low-income families, for example to provide them with rent assistance or support if they are first-time renters or buyers, so everyone could find a home for themselves, that actually feels like home and not a burden.
