Intergenerational Fairness for Social Cohesion & Resilience

Avatar: Lydia CALDANA Lydia CALDANA

Area of exploration: Intergenerational perspective/ tools of Wellbeing Economy
Our 'What Ifs': What If.... GDP was replaced by measures/metrics that captured connected thriving communities? What If.... economic productivity was decentered in our system allowing people from all generations to allocate more time to care work (incl of the young and olds)/ volunteering activities? What If.... educational systems were reformed to allow older people to re-enter education (expand life-long learning)? What If we lived from a perspective of abundance rather than a perspective of lack?

FUTURE SNAPSHOT:
Imagine we live in a world with multidimensional measurement of inclusive and sustainable wellbeing, and where European social systems survive in a world of capitalist competition.
We are now in a system where people and planet work for the economy, where inequality is perpetuated by vested and entrenched interests, where many people do not trust governments to protect them, and where Europe may fall behind in the global competition.
We could promote equality and benchmark best approaches, have policies that facilitate wealth (re)distribution, and promote the economical benefits of a happy society.
It would ensure everyone lives in dignity, be beneficial to all age groups, and incentivize people to pay taxes and contribute to community.
