Intergenerational Fairness Strategy Workshop Results

Avatar: Carolina Cornejo Carolina Cornejo

This workshop was convened to report on Dublin City University's presentation to Ireland's National Strategy for Intergenerational Equity. Participants from diverse backgrounds participated in structured discussions to explore how public policies, community systems and social attitudes can be reshaped to foster equity between generations. The talks were framed around housing, healthcare, digital access, education, environmental responsibility, economic opportunities and political representation. A central theme of the entire workshop was to recognize that complex and systemic issues require collaborative and multigenerational solutions. While definitive answers remain elusive, participants agreed that recognizing challenges in an open and respectful manner is vital to progress. The workshop highlighted the importance of creating structures that enable shared understanding, mutual benefit and long-term equity across generations. While solutions are not simple, active participation and collaboration are essential for all age groups. Participants called for a generational mission based on inclusion, investment and trust to ensure that future policies apply to all age groups, not just the present or the past.
