Young participants said seal populations should be managed to safeguard fish stocks and marine ecosystems — but without overhunting. In their opinion, some EU rules on seal products include might unintentionally harm Arctic communities that rely on these practices for , their livelihoods and culture although the EU rules have a clear exemption for Indigenous Peoples. In light of the ongoing fitness check of the EU’s seal regime, they called for stronger cooperation between local communities and EU policymakers to ensure that environmental measures remain both sustainable and fair.
How can the EU protect wildlife while respecting the people who depend on it?
