Young people want Europe to be both green and strong

They believe that sustainability and competitiveness should go hand in hand—not compete against each other. For them, being competitive means leading the way in clean energy, innovation, and creating jobs that are good for people and the planet.

They also think it’s time to rethink what “success” means in the EU. It shouldn’t just be about money or growth, but about well-being, fairness, and protecting nature. In fact, many said that sustainability should come first, especially with the climate crisis getting worse.

And it’s not just about policies—it’s about people. Young Europeans want everyone to be part of the change. They believe that citizen engagement is key to making sustainability a shared value across Europe.

How can the EU continue engaging young people in defining what success means for Europe—beyond growth, towards sustainability and well-being?
