Protect the market access of locally produced regenerative and organic food

Local regenerative agriculture should be better supported in the market. Strengthening the link between local farmers and consumers through local products can help make food systems more pollinator friendly, sustainable and resilient. At the same time, if food produced through biological and regenerative agriculture increases in the EU, it is important to ensure that these products can effectively reach the market. This can be difficult when they have to compete with cheaper imports produced through large-scale monocultures outside the EU, which may drive down prices and make local ecological production less viable.

Trade and import policies should therefore help ensure that food produced ecologically within the EU is not priced out of the market by cheaper imports from outside the EU. Measures such as taxation or tariffs could be used to create fairer market conditions, so that locally produced regenerative and organic food can be sold at a competitive price and reach consumers more easily.

The EU Council, which decides on the main lines of trade agreements, the European Commission, in particular DG Trade, and national governments for implementation.
