EU subsidies and targeted economic incentives for diversified farming practices
The EU should subsidize new agricultural solutions to incentivize sustainable industry players to scale up, while farmers should have a longer period of adjustment being supported by EU funds while they are changing their practices. Farmers should also get a period of less taxes to give a market advantage for them.
Introduce targeted economic incentives to support farming practices that enhance biodiversity and protect pollinators. These incentives should reward concrete practices such as crop rotations, diversified cropping systems and leaving part of agricultural land fallow, which contribute to healthier ecosystems and more resilient agricultural landscapes.
Financial support should be based on the size of the farms and the type of agricultural model.
To ensure the effectiveness of these incentives, regular monitoring and field controls should be carried out to assess whether the measures are properly implemented and delivering environmental benefits. This monitoring should be harmonized across Member States.
