Awareness needs to be raised, and information shared, in order to discourage unnecessary preventive use of pesticides, especially in agricultural and also especially in non-agricultural, non-industrial settings such as public, urban and domestic spaces. This would align with the idea of integrated pest management, whereby pesticides are used as little as possible based on need. Stakeholders, including private citizens, need to be informed on the dangers of pesticide use and societal costs especially in agricultural and also in non-industrial and/or non-agricultural contexts.

Responsible actors should include local, regional and national authorities, so that measures can be adapted to location-specific crops, environmental conditions and climate.
