Young Citizens Assembly on Pollinators

How do we reverse the decline of wild pollinating insects?

What's the point of collaborating on this?

I don't want to be pessimistic, and I know there are a lot of people contributing to change, but I wonder what these proposals will do. And I say it in relation to the following. On 9 May 2022, the conclusions of the Cofoe, a citizens’ conference, were read, showing the panels with proposals for the future of the European Union. Among them, a drastic reduction of pesticides was proposed, since they affect the environment as a whole and insects in particular. At the same time, legislation had been enacted and the ban on the use of glyphosate was due to expire on 15 December 2023. The European Commission proposed and eventually renewed its approval for a further ten years, until 15 December 2033. I wonder if the committee did not read the proposals of the cofoe, also what non-economic reasons or business interests were taken into account in that decision to renew the use of glyphosate and, ultimately, if these types of initiatives serve something. I mean that it is very good to put hotels for insects, help them to have more presence in the city etc. But if when it comes to taking forceful and effective measures on the use of substances that prevent them from reproducing and / or end their lives, we are guided by economic interests yielding to pressures of all kinds, what is the use?
