Young Citizens Assembly on Pollinators
How do we reverse the decline of wild pollinating insects?
PROPOSALS FOR THE REDUCTION OF COMBINATIONS IN EUROPE
1. Reduce pesticides and promote sustainable practices Phasing out neonicotinoids and other active substances that have a proven toxic effect on pollinators. Establish maximum levels of authorised use of pesticides and strengthen control mechanisms. Promoting organic farming, agroecological systems and integrated pest management through incentives, subsidies and training for farmers. Establish a pan-European fund to support the transition to insect-friendly practices to ensure that producers do not suffer financial losses in the process of change. 2. Restoration and connection of natural habitats Incentives for reforestation with a variety of honey-bearing species and restoration of wetlands, which act as critical habitats for insects. 3 Support educational programmes for farmers on pollinator conservation and sustainable cultivation practices. 4 Creation of a European Pollinator Observatory with coordination and processing of data from member states 5 Development of digital mapping systems for populations and applications for farmers 6. funding of research projects to study the relationship between climate change and insect biodiversity. Finally, there should be annual progress reports to the European Parliament to assess the measures and possibly revise the targets.
