Young Citizens Assembly on Pollinators
How do we reverse the decline of wild pollinating insects?
Science told you what to do: just put forward, enforce and implement the gid://citi/Decidim::Hashtag/463/EUGreenDeal actions (including gid://citi/Decidim::Hashtag/464/EUBiodiversity2030 and gid://citi/Decidim::Hashtag/465/EUFarm2Fork)
Science is clear on how to reverse the decline of pollinators.
It's just politicians not acting, including at EU and Member State level.
The main drivers for insect loss have been identified (a.o.: intensive agriculture/land use). But the EU is zigzaging and more and more reluctant.
So please, put forward:
- effective EU legislation to reduce pesticides (after the withdrawal of the SUR)
- effective provisions to achieve 10% biodiverse landscape features in agriculture land (either through CAP funding support, or by binding obligations)
- effective provisions to forbid production, use and export of the most toxic pesticides and neonicotinoides
- finally put more (and dedicated) funding in the MFF to support the implementation of the Nature Restoration Regulation (instead of killing the tiny yet effective EU LIFE Programme)
- and finally push Member States jointly to achieve 30% protected (and well managed) areas by 2030 (so, nearly tomorrow), at land and at their sea level. And 1/3 of it to become strictly protected, meaning basically no-intervention zones.
The nature crisis is not about opinions, and what we think should be done. This is about our foodsecurity, our water supply, our survival. So, listen to the science, and start acting, not just listen to industrial agriculture lobby!
