Young Citizens Assembly on Pollinators

How do we reverse the decline of wild pollinating insects?

Cross-Polli:Nation

The decline of domestic bees and wild pollinators and the resulting consequences for food security, human health, quality of life and the functioning of ecosystems have in recent years given rise to strong concerns both for the scientific world and for the economic sector. In Europe, about four out of five species of crops and wild flora depend, at least in part, on animal pollination by thousands of insect species. It is therefore understood how important it is to have detailed information to identify the causes and consequences of the decline of cloud insects, as well as to carry out interventions aimed at their conservation and that of their habitats. Cross-Polli-Nation is a Citizen Science project aimed at citizens that, in addition to the scientific part of pollinator data collection, is concerned with identifying and promoting good practices to recover and create habitats suitable for the various functional groups of pollinator insects. Unlike other projects dedicated to pollinators, Cross-Polli:Nation provides, through the involvement and participation of citizens and schools, various actions ranging from knowledge of the different functional groups, to monitoring up to the improvement of habitats and communication, according to a scheme developed in the United Kingdom and subsequently transposed by the Italian team and re-adapted to our reality.
