Pollinators are an integral part of nature, and they also play a crucial role in cities, helping both nature and humans to thrive. That´s what the EU needs to continue supporting multinational projects such as be BeeUrban project. beeurban.org.uk . Such projects connect beekeepers and academics with the people who need to raise awareness about pollinators through a variety of e-learning materials that will be accessible and available to both academics and the general public. Moreover, these initiatives support apitherapy that has a strong medicinal potential for some people with breathing problems, such as asthma or allergies. Holistically oriented initiatives outline and support the environmental, community and medicinal potential of the pollinators. The initiative, in my view, can be a good inspiration for more European countries that are not yet involved in this initiative, or they can establish their urban beekeeping initiatives that will protect not only bees but also other vital pollinators in urban areas. It´s a great example of how to protect bees and other pollinators in European urban areas through volunteering and active involvement of the whole urban communities concerned.
