“Know your neighbour”

Prepared communities are strong communities. There's the importance of social connections, knowing who lives around you and who might need extra help. This makes it easier to support vulnerable people before and during a crisis.
A concrete example of how local engagement can save lives, is the Portuguese Safe Village, Safe People Programme, which helps communities organise themselves and take an active role in evacuation planning. It exemplifies a good practice that can be adapted across different countries and risks.
