Cybersecurity and digital readiness for citizens

During a roundtable discussion at the European Commission in Bucharest on the topic of Community Resilience, we reached the following conclusions: - All the people in the focus group and/or their relatives (parents, friends) were victims of cyber-attacks, receiving a message to send money to “her mother” / a close friend. - We explored different types of social engineering attacks, impersonating different institutions, known companies e.g. Romanian Post, courier companies. - Young people presented contexts in which they supported their parents who were victims of cyber attacks / phishing, helping them to close their accounts, to make official requests to the official support of social media applications. - The guest recommended methods such as “Have I been Pwned?” to find out if we are part of data breaches and multi-factor authentication to increase security, account protection. - Proposing a subject in the “Digital Education” curriculum or including it in the “Civic Education” curriculum to understand different types of cyber-attacks. - A transparency of the algorithms and data that platforms collect about each of the user, being highlighted in terms and conditions. - National information campaigns on security and online identity.
