Muntena Caravan in Găeşti. Awarness as a first step of preparedness: bringing the discussion from the public environment to the private one.
In the Muntena Caravan activity which took place in Gāeşti, it has been discussed, among other topics, the importance of preparedness concerning crisis scenarios. During the workshops I noticed how some of the students were not aware of possible problems and risks connected to natural disasters, some comments have been "nothing can happen here” or “there has been a fire but it didn't even reach the houses”.
Coming back on the topic during the final debriefing, with all the participants, sitting in a circle, and the facilitator conducting the discussion, the topic emerged once again. It was clear that not all the students were aware of the risks of the territory. Through discussion, examples of other crises were made, like Covid-19. In the end the students understood the importance of the awareness as a tool of preparedness, and they imagined some solutions, like the institution of lessons and/or workshops, that dig into the topics. Plans of action to be able to intervene if or when the authority can't. In general the idea is to tackle such topics in advance and not only as a consequence of an already happened tragedy. The school itself could organize events in the event room, with the possibility of projections as a support. The city should work on the awareness for the adult as well, in order to stimulate discussions inside the families, where the topics are not normally tackled.
