Intergenerational Fairness

Have your say and have an impact on policy

Driven by wellbeing, sustainability, and intergenerational justice

Our vision as OBESSU demands a political and societal step change where wellbeing, sustainability, and intergenerational justice are the core drivers of economic and educational policy, moving beyond a fixation on GDP growth.

This future is built upon 3 key principles: 1.Generational Recognition (solving the unique challenges faced across different generations); 2.Youth Rights (improving the experience of being young and removing systemic discrimination, including ageism); and Future Thinking— committing to "Future Generations" by ensuring current decisions do not jeopardize the decent life of future generations.

This requires Fair Investment, moving away from short-termism with the understanding that the cost of timely action is lower than the long-term cost of inaction. We wish to also stress the need of Eliminating Inequality (tackling gaps within generations) and fostering genuine Intergenerational Connection through dialogue and cooperation.

As is our guiding principle "Nothing about us without us," the strategy must ensure all generations, including young people and school students are recognized as indispensable stakeholders and equal partners in decision-making.
