Re-Discover Europe is a Europe-wide travel and exchange programme for people aged 65 and over. It should give seniors the opportunity to actively discover Europe, to make new encounters and to experience cultural diversity directly. The programme is based on successful EU initiatives such as Erasmus or Interrail, but expands this idea to include a target group that has so far received little attention. Many older people have time, interest and experience – but financial, organisational or health hurdles make travelling more difficult for them. Re-Discover Europe wants to start right here: through discounted or subsidised travel tickets, easily accessible information and booking offers, low-access mobility and cultural exchange formats designed specifically for senior citizens. The programme strengthens European cohesion, promotes intergenerational solidarity and enables older citizens to participate actively in the European project. At the same time, it contributes to the fight against loneliness in old age and is a visible sign of a Europe that takes all generations with it.
