Intergenerational strategy, concrete projects

If climate change leads us to structure a strategy of intergenerational equity and therefore to carry out consultations in a logic of participatory democracy, we must ensure to respond to the urgency and therefore to take action (master word of the COP in Madrid). An intergenerational strategy requires building trust between younger and more advanced generations to avoid the risk of mistrust and a damaging divide. This can be done very simply in the territories by combining in concrete projects on the one hand, the skills of the old, their experience, their know-how and on the other hand, the skills of the new generations, their energy, their digital agility. Together, in cooperation with local authorities and educational institutions, they can generate and manage projects that contribute to territorial resilience and social cohesion. Some of these projects can be integrated into academic careers and others into civil security systems. Institutions such as in France the Civic Service could be open to all generations, senior citizens being able to manage them on a voluntary basis. The competent public services note that their material resources are limited, and so are their human resources. However, the age group of working seniors represents in our society about 10% of the population. Most are available and eager to serve.
