Intergenerational Fairness

Have your say and have an impact on policy

Rebuilding trust between generations

The problem is that each generation tends to believe that the “others” don’t understand them. Young people feel ignored, while older people feel marginalized.

The solution would be policies and spaces for dialogue that bring them together, rather than set them against each other.

A good example of how to achieve this would be:
- A sort of intergenerational parliaments at local and European level, where decisions are made by mixed teams (young and senior members);
- European “reverse mentoring” campaigns, where young people teach seniors about digital skills and AI, while seniors share life and professional experience in return;
- Promoting in the media examples of cooperation between generations, not just stories of conflict. We should find a way to bring them together by the power of example.
