Amplifying Future Generations' Voice In Key Justice Procedures
Justice systems often fail to prioritise fairness for future generations, being inherently backwards-looking. "Justice Compass" propose a simple yet powerful mechanism to integrate the voice of future generations into decisions concerning rights of nature, climate change, biodiversity loss, and natural resource management. This initiative also suggests a European Strategy for Intergenerational Justice with five key points. These include establishing a procedural mechanism to incorporate the voice of future generations in relevant cases, setting up an IPCC-like process to monitor legal disputes affecting future generations, modelling their justice needs, providing feedback to stakeholders on people-centred and forward-looking justice processes, and applying Future Design or similar approaches. The aim is to formulate and present the interests, needs, and demands of future generations, similar to victims' statements, to help decision-makers make more informed and responsible choices.
